The weather recently has featured some very strong winds. December 13th marks the anniversary of one particularly strong wind event in Southwestern KS. On that day, in 1993, a high wind event developed across areas of Southwest Kansas shortly after midnight. Wind gusts recorded were 70 mph at Elkhart, 64 at Garden City, and 90 in the vicinity of Johnson City. Some power lines and tree limbs were knocked down in the Garden City area. Temperatures at Garden City went from a high of 65 °F to a low of 33 °F.
