April’s most frequently quoted weather saying is “April showers bring May flowers.” This is a very accurate observation in Kansas. Although there are early blooming plants, the combination of the moisture in April with the warmer weather in May tends bring about an abundance of blooming plants. We go from an average of temperature of 55 °F in April to an average of 65 °F in May. The daily average rainfall in April, in eastern Kansas, is about a tenth of an inch per day. In contrast the daily average in January is only a hundredth of an inch. The anticipation of those bright blooms helps make the dreary days less depressing.
