Summer hail storms can be devastating. On August 10, 2017 an extremely severe hail and wind storm hit Trego County in the early afternoon. Damage was incredible. Not only was property hit by hail bigger than softballs, the storm included winds greater than 70 miles per hour. In Wakeeney, reports stated that nearly every window in both house and vehicles were broken. In addition to the property damage, there was a tremendous toll on wildlife. The hail was so bad that days after the storm, the scarring of the ground could easily be seen from a satellite view.
