April showers can be quite heavy in Kansas. On Apr 12, 1991, South Central Kansas was hit be just such a storm. Due to heavy rains, US highways 54 and 281 were closed. Parts of the city of Pratt were evacuated. Lemon Park suffered heavy damage, with railroad tracks and cars washed away. Pratt received 6.25 inches of rain. The Hutchinson 10SW station reported 3.11 inches. But South Central KS wasn’t the only location to see heavy rains that week. Washington, KS reported 6.42 inches for the two days ending on the 13th of April. The difference in the flooding was due to the intensity of the rains in South Central Kansas.
